Our Mission… Family Day in the Park was created to strengthen our community by promoting family values, providing youth with a healthy environment for building a successful future, and inspiring community pride.
About… Founded by WEOA radio station owner Ed Lander in partnership with the Black Women’s Task Force, FDITP has its primary objective to preserve, promote, and foster an ongoing outdoor cultural celebration encompassing positive family values and traditions; additionally, the organization provides programs and events to supplement the cultural needs of our diverse Evansville metro community. We are creating opportunities that will enhance, enrich, and empower the family unit for future generations. FDITP encompass arts and crafts, a wide variety of food and merchandise vendors, live music performances, kid, teen, and senior activities, petting zoo, bounce house, and fantastic door prizes. There are also special pavilions where you can get checked for high blood pressure, glaucoma, HIV, diabetes and cholesterol; learn about financial literacy, credit reporting services are available; and so much more. From 1998-2009, the annual FDITP convened at Bellemeade Park. In 2010, due to construction activities adjacent to the park and need for more space, the venue was shifted downtown to the Civic Center back 40 lot, and CK Newsome Community Center. In an effort to introduce more innovative activities to the community, and continue the tradition of the past decade, the Planning Committee has partnered with Community Outreach Evansville, Inc. The festivities kick off the weekend following Labor Day, with our momentous 20th Annual Cultural Celebration taking place on Sept 8th, 2018. Opening Ceremony will begin that Saturday at 10:00 a.m. The Gospel Festival will again be held the evening before (Sept 7th). Family Day In The Park is presented by VenuWorks.
